I am on the third and concluding novel right now and I wanted to know more about Maud. She is a fascinating character and I have thought since Seeker, the first book that she all that is good that the Dreads are supposed to be. So I am grateful to have had the opportunity to own and read this novella on the Kindle. I think the author, Arwen Elys Dayton did an excellent service to all of us, her readers in releasing this - especially the excerpt from Seeker that has a beginning that is not found in my copy of Seeker. Gave me a real "feel" for who the young Dread is which I didn't have before. I love this character and want more.
I really enjoyed reading The Young Dread, my first introduction to Maud, and her otherworldly life adventures! This Novella is short, so now I'm going to get Seeker and read it over the holidays! )

My only disappointment is that the author's next book is not ready yet! I would love to see what movie-makers can do with this! The descriptions are vivid and easily transported me into new places and exciting mystery adventures.
I thought this was an inside look at the young dread, but only 2 chapters on her. Save your money and just get Seeker, it is really good . 2 stars for false advertising.
Just what I would expect from one of the best sci fi/fantasy writers around. Takes an elusive character from The Seeker and fleshes her out. You can clearly see the setting and feel the emotions of the characters. Beautifully paced and while dark in many places, lacks the violence for violence so common in your standard pulp fiction that passes for much of the genre.
